COVID-19, GOVERNMENT AND SELF DISCIPLINE

COVID-19, GOVERNMENT AND SELF DISCIPLINE
(Invitation to be Self Discipline: Indonesia Context after Government Make Decision Civil Emergencies)

The government has only one day adopted "Broad Isolation" and "Civil Emergency" policies. I see there are only those peeled here and there, in social media and the media regarding this policy, but the peel is unclear and not solution. Their minds merely merely see the negative side and worsen the government's image without any clear offer.

In my opinion, the government policy stipulates civil emergency or whatever the term is used by the government must of course consider the ability of the state and study the situation of Indonesian people. There are many people who expect the Jokowi government to determine Lockdown, who knows what the meaning behind that word is. It is too early to judge, but if you continue to mess up, it will add to your own stress.

Lock down in some countries does not help because it is not disciplined like Italy too. The Indian PM's decision to lockdown makes people lose their jobs, they fight over public transportation and have to walk back to their hometowns and those who have no choice are wandering the streets. The Lockdown policy actually delivered many victims which made the people miserable. This event may be considered by the government so that it does not lockdown but stipulates that civil emergency will make the people more miserable.

Trump in America in dealing with Covid-19 has poured stimulus of US $ 2 Trillion, they did not do a lock down. These funds protect the logistics community, household needs and other policies for the handling of Covid-19. It also remained overwhelmed and could not reduce the number of deaths due to Corona. If we look at the data, America ranked number one now has a death of Covid-19. What is the lesson from American policy, for me, money stimulus is also not effective against Covid-19.

Money is necessary, but it requires a good mentality, self-discipline and self-awareness before God as a helpless being. As helpless creatures we need God's help in this life.

I am not an expert in politics and have never read the meaning of the word behind the Civil Emergency Policy or the meaning of the word "Lock Down" in the formulation of the law. I believe the government with its policy is the optimal decision it has to minimize Covid victims in accordance with the country's capabilities and people's resilience. Yes, their policies can be debated because of differences of opinion. I believe the policy taken by the government at the time to reduce and slow the spread of co-19 and reduce casualties with the awareness and cooperation of all Indonesian people.

What can we do? True government policy will not help if there is no community cooperation, so with that in my opinion there are some things we can do to help the community and the government of Covid-19, namely:

01. Please stay at home, if you don't need to go out, let's stay at home doing various positive activities.

02. Please keep your distance from other people and diligently wash your hands and try to clean.

03. Please discipline and look after yourself, policies cannot change anything without self discipline.

04. Pray, share and discuss with all family members. Let's review the teachings of the Bible that build our spirituality. (or for those of other religions reviewing the teachings of your religion that builds spirituality).

05. Patience and perseverance covid will pass. We believe that we will overcome this global pandemic disaster. Like the Israelites refrained at home when God brought the tenth plague in Egypt. Easter in Hebrew P'sah means "passing". One more Sunday we will celebrate Easter. For HKBP residents, there has been a Pastoral letter from the religious leaders in celebrating Easter this year, at our own homes. By remembering the word Easter we believe we will also pass Covid.

May God give patience and persevere hearts for all of us in facing Covid-19. Let us pray to the government that all its policies can help the Indonesian people to be free from Covid-19. God bless and protect us all.

Greetings: Rev. Nekson M Simanjuntak (Stay at home in Depok)
